Adult Programming, Take the lead project,2011This is a featured page

Welcome to the Public Libraries NSW Adult Programming page. This page has been started by a small group of library professionals participating in "Take the lead" 2011. A leadership program run by the State library of NSW.

The thinking behind this project was to develop a place where library professionals could find programming ideas to encourage adults to come into the library. Libraries successfully use programming as a strategy to attract children, youth(particularly students) and seniors to the library. Why not adults? We felt that adult programming is becoming a missing aspect of library services, and should be an important issue to address in order to either attract new members, or to keep current members happy. Thus "The Missing Link" group is formed.

It can be quite a challenge for librarians to develop programs catered to adults as there as many factors such as family, work, technology, lifestyle preferences, and the wide age bracket, that many libraries will be familiar with and need to compete against.

The idea of our project was to create a one stop shop for public library adult programming. Everyone is welcome to share any ideas and programs you have created.
